Caritas of Austin is a non-profit that works with homeless people and refugees in the Austin area. They work under the housing first approach to ending homelessness, and a strong job program that helped 626 people find jobs. They also resettled 631 refugees from 16 different countries.
While at Caritas, I worked on the Community Classes project that revamped and created curricula for homeless people and refugees. I helped create a database of resources used by the Education department to complete the project. In addition, I gathered and analyzed the data from focus groups on the case managers within several departments. The data will be used to determine which classes should be implemented within the Community Classes Project.
This experience will help me in the future with teaching adults any kind of knowledge. It also taught how to gather and analyze within the company that will make meaningful change within the lives of people.
